-English version below-
De sterke resultaten over de eerste twee kwartalen;
De waardering vanuit aandeelhouders, o.a. zichtbaar in de beurskoers;
Dag 6: Long day, little movement
After a long day of negotiations on hybrid working, the recognition bonus and pay, we unfortunately have to conclude that little progress was made. Despite hours of discussions, the gap between the positions on the key issues remained wide.
Hybrid working: closer together, but not yet agreed
Hybrid working was the first item on the agenda. The focus was on the balance between working from home, working elsewhere and working at the office. We shared the results of our survey with the bank, which showed strong employee support for hybrid working, but not for a blanket requirement of 50% office attendance. Employees see the main added value of the office in collaboration and meeting colleagues, prefer tailored arrangements within teams, and stress that good facilities and suitable mobility arrangements are essential. The bank can support these principles and will put forward a proposal.
Recognition bonus: greater differentiation between employees
The recognition bonus was also discussed. According to the bank, 83% of employees currently receive a 2.5% bonus, and there is a need within the organisation for greater differentiation. The bank wants to replace the current scale of 0%, 2.5% and 5% with five levels: 0%, 1%, 2.5%, 3.5% and 5%. The rationale for this still needs to be developed further.
Pay: what it ultimately comes down to
The bank acknowledged that its financial results are strong. Reference was made to:
The strong results for the first two quarters;
The appreciation shown by shareholders, as reflected in the share price, among other things;
The fact that, as a bank, we are ahead of schedule in achieving our strategic objectives.
These results show that the bank is in a strong financial position. At the same time, there are the inflation forecasts from the Dutch Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB): 3.3% for 2026 and 2.8% for 2027. And it is precisely because of these two factors—strong results at the bank and higher inflation figures—that there is both a need and room for the bank to take steps at the collective bargaining table.
Movement is needed to continue the talks
We can see that the bank and the unions are still far apart on this issue. As Our NEXT Move, we want to preserve your purchasing power and beat inflation. The unions therefore unanimously presented the bank with a choice: continuing the pay talks next week will only be worthwhile if the bank abandons its current pay position and ensures that employees retain their purchasing power and share in the bank's success. The bank indicated that it was not prepared to formally change its pay position, leading us to conclude that there was no point in continuing the talks next week.
We hope that the bank will change its position and will still be willing to resume negotiations from a reasonable position next Wednesday. After six days of negotiations, we are therefore at an important crossroads. The ball is in the bank's court!
